GHANA INTERNATIONAL DRUMS TOUR

Experience Ghana Through Rhythm, Culture & Community

A Unique Cultural Immersion Experience

The Ghana International Drums Tour (GIDT) is an immersive cultural experience designed for people who want to discover Ghana through its rhythms, dances, traditions, communities and people.

More than a tour, GIDT creates an opportunity for international visitors, cultural groups, students, artists and cultural enthusiasts to experience Ghana from within โ€” learning traditional drumming, exploring local communities, discovering heritage, sharing meals, participating in cultural activities and building meaningful international friendships.

Come With Us. Feel the Rhythm. Experience Ghana.

WHAT IS THE GHANA INTERNATIONAL DRUMS TOUR?

Ghana has a rich tradition of using drums and other traditional instruments to communicate, celebrate, accompany dance, preserve history and bring communities together.

The Ghana International Drums Tour introduces visitors to this living cultural heritage through hands-on experiences and cultural encounters.

Participants can learn traditional rhythms, explore Ghanaian dances, meet local artists and communities, experience indigenous crafts and discover some of the country’s cultural and tourism attractions.

The experience is designed around three key ideas:

LEARN โ€ข EXPERIENCE โ€ข CONNECT

A CULTURAL JOURNEY BEYOND THE FESTIVAL

While GIFF brings cultures together on the festival stage, the Ghana International Drums Tour takes participants beyond the stage.

It allows visitors to experience the people, traditions and communities behind Ghana’s cultural expressions.

Depending on the selected programme, participants may experience:

  • Traditional drumming
  • Ghanaian dance
  • Drum-making
  • Bead-making
  • Traditional cooking
  • Storytelling
  • Language lessons
  • Community visits
  • Local market experiences
  • Cultural ceremonies
  • Heritage exploration
  • Arts and crafts
  • Community projects
  • Ghanaian hospitality

TRADITIONAL DRUMMING EXPERIENCE

One of the central experiences of GIDT is hands-on traditional drumming.

Participants are introduced to Ghanaian rhythms and given the opportunity to learn directly from experienced cultural practitioners.

You don’t need to be a professional musician.

Whether you are a first-time drummer, performer, student, teacher or experienced musician, the experience is designed to encourage participation.

Participants may learn:

  • Basic drumming techniques
  • Traditional rhythms
  • Rhythm and movement
  • Ensemble playing
  • Drum communication
  • The relationship between drums and dance
  • The cultural meaning behind selected rhythms

The objective is not simply to teach participants how to play a drum.

It is to help them understand why the drum matters.

DRUM & CULTURAL INSTRUMENT MAKING

Participants may also have the opportunity to observe or participate in traditional instrument-making activities.

These experiences can introduce visitors to:

  • Drum construction
  • Materials used in traditional instruments
  • Instrument decoration
  • Traditional craftsmanship
  • The cultural significance of musical instruments

Where available, participants may create or purchase cultural instruments and handmade products as lasting memories of their experience in Ghana.

DANCE & MOVEMENT

In Ghanaian cultural traditions, music and dance are closely connected.

GIDT therefore incorporates movement and dance into the cultural experience.

Participants may learn selected Ghanaian dances while discovering the stories, traditions and occasions associated with them.

The experience encourages everyone to participate โ€” regardless of age or previous dance experience.

EXPERIENCE GHANAIAN FOOD

Food is an important part of cultural exchange.

During the Ghana International Drums Tour, participants may have opportunities to experience Ghanaian cuisine and learn about traditional food preparation.

Possible experiences include:

  • Ghanaian cooking demonstrations
  • Traditional meals
  • Local ingredients
  • Community dining
  • Market visits
  • Food preparation
  • Culinary storytelling

Participants don’t simply taste Ghanaian food.

They discover the culture behind it.

COMMUNITY & CULTURAL EXCHANGE

One of the distinctive features of GIDT is the opportunity to interact with Ghanaian communities.

Participants may take part in carefully organized community experiences that encourage genuine cultural exchange.

These may include:

  • Community visits
  • Cultural demonstrations
  • Traditional storytelling
  • Local games
  • Language exchange
  • Community projects
  • Meetings with cultural practitioners
  • Traditional hospitality experiences

The aim is to create relationships rather than simply provide sightseeing.

GHANAIAN LANGUAGE EXPERIENCE

Participants may receive introductory lessons in selected Ghanaian languages.

The experience can include useful greetings, expressions and cultural etiquette.

Learning even a few local words can create a deeper connection between visitors and the communities they encounter.

A simple greeting can open a door to friendship.

HERITAGE & TOURISM EXPERIENCES

GIDT can also be combined with visits to selected cultural and tourism destinations in Ghana.

Depending on the tour itinerary, experiences may include:

  • Historic sites
  • Museums
  • Traditional communities
  • Cultural centres
  • Craft villages
  • Local markets
  • Coastal destinations
  • Nature and heritage attractions
  • Traditional palaces and cultural institutions

Tour itineraries may vary according to the duration of the programme and operational arrangements.

CULTURAL LIVING EXPERIENCE

GIDT is designed to encourage visitors to experience Ghanaian hospitality at a deeper level.

Where arrangements permit, participants may experience community or host-family interactions, allowing them to observe everyday Ghanaian life, traditions and hospitality.

For international participants, this can become one of the most memorable parts of the journey.
