HOST FAMILY PROGRAMME

Experience Ghana Beyond the Festival Stage

The Ghana International Folklore Festival (GIFF) is not only about performances. It is about creating genuine connections between people and cultures.

Through the GIFF Host Family Programme, selected international participants will have the opportunity to connect with Ghanaian families and experience aspects of everyday life, hospitality and community in Ghana.

A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER

For many international participants, visiting Ghana may be their first opportunity to experience the country.

The Host Family Programme creates a welcoming environment where participants can interact directly with Ghanaian families and learn about local traditions, customs, food and community life.

It is an opportunity to move beyond being a visitor and become part of a cultural exchange.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS MAY EXPERIENCE

Depending on the arrangements made with the host family, participants may have opportunities to:

  • Share meals with a Ghanaian family
  • Experience Ghanaian hospitality
  • Learn about local customs and traditions
  • Participate in family and community activities
  • Learn about Ghanaian food and cuisine
  • Share stories about their own culture
  • Build international friendships
  • Experience everyday Ghanaian life

CULTURE GOES BOTH WAYS

The programme is designed as a two-way cultural exchange.

International participants bring their own traditions, stories and experiences to Ghana, while host families share aspects of Ghanaian culture and community life with their guests.

Through this exchange, both sides can discover similarities and differences between their cultures.

CAREFULLY COORDINATED

GIFF will coordinate the Host Family Programme to help ensure that participating families and international guests are appropriately matched.

Host-family participation will be subject to:

  • Availability
  • Registration and approval
  • Accommodation suitability
  • Participant requirements
  • Programme guidelines
  • Safety and operational considerations

Participants who wish to take part should indicate their interest during the registration process.

BUILDING LASTING FRIENDSHIPS

The relationships created through cultural exchange can continue long after the festival ends.

A family in Ghana may remain connected with a cultural group from another country.

A participant may return to Ghana in the future.

A friendship created during GIFF may develop into future cultural, educational or artistic collaboration.

This is one of the lasting values of the programme.

WELCOME TO GHANA

Come as a cultural participant.
Leave with a cultural connection.

The GIFF Host Family Programme is an invitation to experience Ghana through the people who call it home.
